Autism in Barbados

Individuals with ASD can become very easily frustrated

The AAB has been active in organizing awareness campaigns, in particular the Autism Workshops held during Easter 2007 at Harambee House and the Ministry of Education. In cooperation with Linden Bridge School from Surrey, England, we organised 2 weeks of informal classes for teaching staff and family members who had contact with children and adults with the disability. The sessions took place during the first ever Autism Awareness Week in Barbados, which coincided with the UN newly inaugurated Autism Awareness day of April 2nd 2008.

Workshop

In April 2009 a two week workshop was held by Linden Bridge School, Surrey England in conjunction with the Barbados Ministry of Education and the Autism Association of Barbados. On World Autism Day the Albert Selby Memorial Talk was given by Dr. Maureen Samms-Vaughan, Professor of Child Health, Child Development & Behaviour, UWI Mona.
